2008 Analysis: After being named starter coming out of Spring Training, Ethier had a somewhat slow start. He was soon replaced by Juan Pierre. He shared time in the outfield with Pierre until Andruw Jones went on the DL.
Manny Ramírez was acquired on July 31st, and not long after that, Ethier was moved in front of Manny in the lineup. Given the protection Manny delivers, Ethier really kicked it into gear.
From August 1st until the end of the season, Ethier batted .368 (with a 1.097 OPS) collecting nine homeruns and 31 RBIs.
That's what you call a breakout year. Overall, he set new career highs in hits, doubles, homeruns, RBIs, .OBP, and .SLG.
2009 Outlook: I hope and expect Andre Ethier to be our starting corner outfielder in 2009. Doesn't matter if it's left field or right, Ethier should be in the lineup every day.
